OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT)

We have primarily used optical coherence tomography (OCT) for the objective evaluation of the skin health. This is because of the appropriate intermediate resolution and penetration depth of OCT (~ 10 microns ad ~2 mm). OCT can also be used to evaluate the efficacy of a cosmetic product such as a lotion or a cream on the skin. Other applications of the OCT are in forensic science, cardiology, endoscopy, dentistry, development biology and brain surgery. Because of its high frame rate, volumetric imaging capability and high structural resolution, OCT is attractive to many disciplines. Please contact Dr. Avanaki at avanaki@uic.edu for more information and further discussion.

  1. OCT system development

  2. OCT image enhancement

  3. Skin cancer imaging (BCC, SCC, and Melanoma)

  4. Contrast-enhanced OCT imaging
